Hi and welcome to LQ!

Your question is unclear.

I think you asked for some pointers how to download and set up something.

What are you trying to download and set up?

You should start by reading the FAQ on the Parrot website:
https://docs.parrotlinux.org/intro/w...d-i-use-parrot

Not surprising you're not getting much help there, since Parrot is for advanced Linux users and professional pentesters.

As rtmistler said, we have no idea what you're really asking. If you're asking how to configure things to accomplish your school project...is that not the entire POINT of your school project? For you to learn how to do these things, and explain the steps???

Also, if you're just 13, please do yourself a favor and get into the habit of using the correct words, spell correctly, and use punctuation and capital letters. As you move forward in life, writing as you've done here won't put you in a positive light with potential employers, or with more advanced education.

If you are referring to program files, your wisest course of action is to use Parrot's software center/package manager to do so. The package manager will ensure that files are placed in the correct spots.

I second the suggestion to read the docs. The Parrot FAQ is a good place to start: https://docs.parrotlinux.org/faq/

I don't think ParrotOS is a good OS to start with, for 2 reasons: a) it's one of those "advanced" distros, and b) it does not seem to be maintained very well.

Try Linux Mint or Ubuntu.
After a year or so try Debian.

You can install those cool & leet "pentesting" apps on any distro.

Read the LQ Rules; don't edit your posts, because it just makes threads confusing later.

Past that, Parrot or Kali are **NOT** meant for new users, but as said, for experts or professionals. There is no 'checklist' of things you need to do, since you first have to determine what it is you WANT to do, then take the steps to accomplish it. If your goal is to learn, then you need to read up on how to accomplish the task you stated in your original post (quoted in my first reply), which is to show how 'easy' it is to hack wifi. **ANY** version of Linux can do the exact same things as Parrot or Kali....and Windows can ALSO be used to hack wifi. There are abundant tutorials, how-to guides, etc., showing how to perform such security testing.

You install the package, and IT determines where it needs to be installed.

We realize you're only 13...which is ample time to know how to spell common words, and know basic grammar. Things like "I seen video...", "but want make sure", etc. should be plainly incorrect.

Truly not trying to be harsh, but again, getting into the habit of doing things right serves you better than trying to REMEMBER to do things right, after typically doing them wrong.

There are no rules regarding editing of posts, and members can edit their posts.

Regarding the English and grammar, it may be that our new member not a native English speaker. Perhaps they should indicate if this is also a barrier to clear communications.

Either case LinuxRU, we appreciate you cleaning up your question and trying to improve it.

Please do follow up on the suggestions from TB0ne, as well as ondoho, and frankbell.
  1. People have noted that Parrot OS is not a starter distribution, and you should consider that feedback.
  2. If you're certain you do wish to continue with Parrot, then please view their FAQ which has been offered to you a few times and relate more specific details where you have specific questions, but try to be more detailed with an exact question.

A suggestion may be to offer the links where you've viewed a video and in a case like that, a note about the time sequence in the video where something is covered that you do not understand.

You are quite correct; my mistake. I have seen folks say previously to not edit posts, as it makes things confusing, and I would have sworn it was codified somewhere, but it apparently isn't.

Indeed, that could be a contributory factor.

Would be excellent.

A point to also make is if you make a new post it causes email to notify about new posts in the thread, for those who subscribed. Typically that includes those who have answered already. If you edit a post, this doesn't occur.

Regarding a list of software, there is none, this is your choice. What you need or want. There are no standard lists.

Regarding download location, typically in a Downloads directory off in your user account directory tree. Sometimes for click and install stuff, it may use a folder in /tmp which is not a permanent directory, much like Windows uses something similar because it knows you downloading a setup file which may not be needed to be kept.
