I have tried about every combo, but cannot get any test page delivered to the printer. The device/ps setup works fine in our old Sun Unix enviroment. The new env is redhat 4 ES. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help.
I have multiple Oki and other dot matrix devices. The key I believe is that they are all coming thru single or multi port printer servers / convesion boxes. I am coming off an old Solaris environment where they all work fine. Its just my lack of skills that is the problem! In Solaris, if I look at the etc/lp/printers file, none of these printers show up. That tells me they are not configured like a laser that is directly connected to the network.
How does RedHat know how to address the output to a printer on one of these multi port ps, when there is only 1 IP address?
How would you set one of these up?
I have no idea where to look!
Why, wouldn't the printers that work in Solaris (4.2) be listed under the printers in etc/lp/printers?
Ok, forget Solaris, in the Red Hat I have a OKIdata 321, connected to a single port Lantronix adaptor,
the QUE TYPE is NETWORKED CUPS(IPP),SERVER adresss,PATH=printers/queue1
the QUE OPTIONS = default settings
the PRINT DRIVER = ML321 which indicates omni-compiled
the DRIVERS OPTIONS = assume unknown data is text
On most Lantronix print servers you can print to a service (e.g. EPS_ABC123_TEXT) using lpr/lpd, or you can print directly to a TCP port, e.g. port 3001 for the first port on the server.
