condensed printing
 

I need to send the escape codes to an HP LJ8000 so that it will print condensed for all subsequent documents until I tell it to stop. I have the escape sequences, but how can I get them to the printer from a script or command line?

I wrote a UniVision BASIC program that tells the printer to condense. The printer will print condensed for the current document, but not for subsequent documents. Univision is an emulation of a PICK database FYI. I am running RedHat 7.2 on a DELL Poweredge 2400.

In summary, I would like to be able to send the escape codes to the printer so that I can test and see if it is RedHat that is resetting the printer after every document or is it is the UniVision database (which is supposed to just pass through to the Linux spooler, but I need to be sure).
