Computer Name
Hey All,
I just installed Red Hat 9.0 for the second time (hard disk failure). The last time I installed it, I made the computer name something like BeaverBox...this time I forgot to say it, now it is some long, lame looking name. is there a way to change this without having to reinstall? Thanks, |
yes, by editing /etc/hosts
|
or use the hostname command:
#hostname BeaverBox if you dont use any parameters, it will spit out the current hostname. |
I tried both ways, but it doesn't permanentyl change the name. do I have to reinstall? (kinda driving me nuts.)

you must edit the line in the file:
---> /etc/sysconfig/network that says: ---> HOSTNAME= |
