Hello all, sorry but this is a REAL newbie question:

I have my SuSE 7.2 system now up an running, how can I make a complete backup of EVERYTHING on the system? I currently have only one EXT2-partition and one swap-partition used by Linux and would like a kind of backup that I can use to restore my system to EXACTLY the same state as it was at the time of backup. Harddisk space is not a problem, I have plenty of it unused on other partitions which are not used by Linux but mounted.

If possible I would like to use software that comes with SuSE, how could that work, tar, dump, ... ?

im using partimage (search sourceforge/freshmeat) to do just this. itll save the whole partition to a file, can bzip compress it, and split into parts, like 700Mb when ure archiving on cdr.
btw, u dont want to archive /swap, just re-make it when necessary.
