Compiz settings don't work in Fedora

Because of Firefox's issue of smearing with a window over it, I enabled Compiz instead of Metacity. Because Compiz is compositing, it fixed this issue. But ccsm doesn't seem to work. I change the settings and nothing appears to happen. I wonder if this is because it conflicts with Fedora's "enable desktop effects" settings? Maybe I need to restart X?
