Unhappy compiz fusion isnt working


i installed pclinux os and every thing's working fine so far but the compiz fusion isnt working.....i tried the latest drivers for my radeon 9550 vid card available in synaptic but that doesn't worked either. i tried everything but the compiz fusion wont let me use all their cool features... can anybody help?

post data : i am a complete noob......i didn't knew what linux was since last week so plz keep the linux slang to a minimum so i can understand

What did you do to try and get Compiz-Fusion to work?

pc > system > configuration > compiz > compiz fusion icon

I don't know about PC Linux OS, but you might need to compile the drivers directly from the ATI website. The free radeon drivers from linux don't support 3D, I believe.

Click on the Configure your computer icon (it has a spanner and a screwdriver as the icon), enter your root password then go to Hardware--> Configure 3d Desktop effects, select Full 3d desktop effects then click ok now follown the onscreen instructions.

Search here about the latest ATI drivers on the latest kernel tree. What it amounts to is dri and 3d does not work with the latest ATI on the 2.6.23 kernel branch. If you have both kernel 2.6.23 or greater and ATI 8.42.3 then this is the problem.You need to use kernel 2.6.22 or lower with 8.42.3 or use ATI 8.40.4 on 2.6.23 to get DRI to work.
