Question compiling with fedora 8


I have recently instaled fedora 8 on my computer for the perpose of c programming pratical at uni. the install was from a fedora live disc.

version 2.20.1
Build date 10/15/2007

when i try to compile a c file i get a message saying:

"bash: gcc: command not found"

can anyone provide an information about what i'm doing wrong?

You're trying to use software that (most likely) isn't installed. You shouldn't assume that gcc has been installed, because it may be that Fedora doesn't install development packages unless you specifically tell it to (I don't know, I don't use Fedora). So, the obvious thing to try would be to install gcc. There's information on installing software in Fedora here.

What Nylex said is true. You can query to check whether a package is installed or not by
# rpm -q <package-name>

if not present,you can load it through applications -> add/remove software.

or through CLI(command line innterface) usinf command "yum install gcc"
