Compiling - libXext not found?

I have now succesfully, and largely thanks to this forum, gotten my Suse system to the point where I can do all the tasks I previously did on Windows. The remaining problem is system backup.

I have tried to compile kdar, but I get the following error:
Quote:
checking for libXext... no
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
them either.
The whole compiling log is here.

I have searched my system for the file, and found it at /usr/X11R6/lib. Actually, the file is called libXext.so.6. Is that the same file? And how can I tell the system where it is?

I tried to install libXext with YAST, but it says I already have a package that provides it.

edit your /etc/ld.so.conf
add one line
/usr/X11R6/lib
save it then run /sbin/ldconfig && updatedb as root
then try reconfig again u might have luck

I have no idea what that means, but I tried to do it anyway .
However, Ld.so.conf already had that line.
