compiling gtk1 app against gtk2

See title, is this easily done? I have a Gtk1 app that doens't even remotely fit in to my carefully planned and laid out desktop because it uses Gtk1 to draw it's widgets when the rest of my system uses Gtk2. I could go find a similar Gtk1 theme and edit it to suit my needs but a bloke in IRC the other day was telling me how he compiled his Gmplayer against Gtk2 and it looked way better so I'm assuming there are easier ways.

How would I go about doing this? Is it easy as I'm competent at compiling my own apps, I do it regularly and I've even compiled many a programs from CVS without even Makefiles or configure scripts, I felt proud. I am no expert though so any help is appreciated

it would need a proper port from gtk to gtk2, they are not cross compatible in any way, you would need to tally udpate all the UI code. you sound like it's actually your own application, if so gtk.org does contain porting guides etc...

Nup, sorry it's not my own application but upon further research the website claims it uses Gtk2. If so is there anything that would stop it using the Gtk theme because it doesn't match at all...

Might have an old version as well, can't remember if I got it from the projects site or not
