compile kernel, black screen on init scripts
Not new to compiling kernels, done it plenty of times, but I'm getting frustrated here. I compile kernel, reboot, and it loads fine, but as soon as it loads kernel and goes to run init stuff, screen just goes blank. I can tell everything is still going b/c I hear drives churning, but just black on screen. I'm guess it must have something to do with console driver perhaps, but I can't see what the heck is wrong. Any ideas?

I'd say you don't have the right filesystem support enabled in the kernel.........

IE..........ext2, ext3, reiserfs.......etc

don't know the exact prob., but it has to do with frame-buffer support in the kernel.

there are more threads about this prob, maybe do a search on "frame buffer " or so...

Probably framebuffer problem. Try passing "vga=normal" to kernel at startup.
