Compatible scanners and programs for use with Ubuntu

Would it be possible to request assistance in selecting the type of scanner and software which will work with Ubuntu. My Agfa and epson scanner obstinately refuse to play ball ??

Thank You

You should check the LQ hardware compatibility list.

I recently added the HP Deskjet F4280 to the list. There is one Agfa and several Epson scanners listed. Generally the listings include the steps required to get the device running.
