I am running Ubuntu in a Sony Vaio computer, I dont know if it is the same model that you have. The laptop I am talking about was purchased about two years ago. It came with W7 and it is running fine with Ubuntu.

To find out if yours is compatible with Ubuntu I would suggest to boot the computer in a live session and check that all your hardware is detected by the OS.
I use a wireless mouse with mine.

Thank you for answering;
I am still wondering about W8 though, the new windows, and i haven't purchased the computer yet, so i can't test ...
Does anybody know about W8 ?

What about it?? Your original question was about Linux on a Vaio...and I've run Vaio laptops for years with several flavors of Linux, and all have worked very well. But what does running Linux on a Vaio have to do with Windows 8?? If you're talking about the 'secure boot', just disable it in BIOS, and dual-boot, if that's what you want. If you're just going to run Linux only, Windows has NOTHING to do with anything.

The primary issue with Windows 8 is Windows "Secure Boot." This article will tell you more.

I have a friend who installed Linux on a Lenovo laptop that came with Windows 8. He had to disable secure boot to do that; I don't think he ever succeeded in booting back into Windows, but, honestly, he really didn't care and didn't try very hard.
