Compatability issue? Or is it me?
Does anybody here know anything about obscure hardware such as the on board devices of my shuttle XPC?
I have read heaps of stuff... asked heaps of questions of several forums and nobody can help me :( My System ================== Shuttle SN41G2 (FN41 motherboard) AMD XP athlon 2400+ 512mb DDR kingston 333mhz 120gb hdd in 3 partitions 20gb = Windows 2000 SP4 5gb = Redhat 7.3 rest = storage (NTFS) onboard stuff nVidia GeForce4 MX440 shared memory MAC LAN (nVidia) - (whats MAC mean? - i got that from my manual) - Win2k device manager says "nVidia nForce MCP network adapter" AC'97 The motherboard is nVidia nForce2 chipset My Problems =============== * Can't get graphics above 600x800 (i can do it with a spare card i have... but i wanna use that in another system so if i could get the onboard to work it would be great!) * Don't have any sound at all (a warning that pops up when the system enters Redhat says "dev/dsp cannot be found - device does not exist - using null output device") * Can't detect LAN Can someone tell me if any of these work and how to get them to work? Cos I'm fully stumped :( The XPC is a small form factor computer... and only has 1xAGP and 1xPCI slot... so i cant go out and buy new cards... I do have another nVidia 128mb GeForce4 MX440 AGP card which I have plugged in and that seems to run ok... but its is still very dodgy... it runs at about 1/2 the speed of Windows 2000!! I thought unix was spose to be fast? Please help, Even if its just confirmation that its unsupported... then i can go out and buy a dodgy second system for my unix needs... |
Can you go into the bios and disable plug and play? If so, do it. This can help a lot with onboard stuff.
