Comparison

Is there anywhere I can get a comparison of the different linuc Distros? Or at least a good description of them?

How hard would it be to install 3 distros on 3 partitions of my non-win hard drive?

www.distrowatch.com

you probably could get away with 3 partitions, but that would kind of extreme. better would be to have at least 5: 1 for /home, 1 for swap, and 1 for each distro. that's about as minimalistic as i would go, at least, fwiw.

I have those three for linux installs, 1 for a win install, and a 40gig for data.

Easy - 3 Root partitions and a Swap partition (as your 4th)

the only disadvantage to that is if you finally decided to go with only one distro, you would have to copy your /home data from each one to somewhere temporary while you set everything up again, then copy it to the new place, etc. whereas if you have a dedicated /home partition, you could even wipe all three distros clean and start over with a single one, or a different one, or whatever you wanted to do, while maintaining your data with minimal hassle. just something to consider. :)
