Question Comparability of gigabyte's ga-ma69vm-s2

Hi, have on offer to me a gigabyte ga-ma69vm-s2 motherboard that's been upgraded to run latest core six cpu's from amd,I cannot find out so far if this board is compatible with a linux distro or if drivers are available,as the media system is in the planning stage at the moment distro type not yet settled although i do have an old unused slackware version 10.0 and gentoo 2004.2. old i know but systems designed to integrate with my hifi separates and hopefully reduce cd storage space! Many thanks in antisipation.Andy.T.South

Hi, welcome to LQ!

I can't say I know anything about that board personally, but
http://hardware4linux.info/system/1878/ suggests mixed results.

Of course I'm puzzled as to how you make a 3 year old board
compatible with the newest CPUs that are out there.

Whatever distro you go for - make sure it's newer than the
board; slack 10 or an ancient gentoo won't be much fun.

Cheers,
Tink

Thumbs up compatibility of ga-ma69vm-s2

Hi Tinkster thanks for that somebody else raised a doubt over the board upgrade,so walk away time me thinks, besides things have got complicated as I have acquired a none working compaq dc7700 small form format box of tricks motherboard failure so going to roast it in the oven and see if I can flow it and breathe new life in it trouble is I don't like Intel either, and don't see an alternative here as motherboard is set up in reverse to normal boards I.E.The slots on the lefthand side from the rear! Cheers Andy.T.South
