Compaq 1850R + Suse 9.2
Hello,
I did some searching on the boards and couldn't find anything too specific that relates to my problem. I have a Compaq 1850R (dual 600mhz PII w/384mb RAM) SCSI Raid 5+1. I attempted to install SuSe 9.2 on this machine and I can get as far as the 'inital boot' After that it either hangs completely and/or displays green lines at the top of the screen. I've tried a repair and it detected missing packages but still has not resolved the issue. Is there a compatibility issue with the video? Also there is no USB on this system...would have present an issue of its own? Let me know if you need further information...I'm a bit green at Linux. thx -E |
just check the X server configuration file (/etc/X11/XF86Config in redhat) and see
if the monitor parameters (resolution, refresh rate etc) are correct |
I went ahead and installed a PCI Video card and that seems to have resolved the issue with the display. However, I can get thru the install but the 1850R locks up after going thru all the loading ( i.e. process load then display as 'done')
I suppose the machine locks up when it starts to load the x-system for KDE desktop but there are no text indications of this. Whats going on? |
