commit interval 5 seconds

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a WD 320gb usb hdd. It works fine on my new laptop that has the ability to boot direct from usb-hdd, however when i attempt to boot it on an older laptop without bios support (using a usb boot cd) it starts to load then hangs at:

commit interval 5 seconds
ext3-fs mounted filesystem with ordered data mode

Then i get dropped into busybox after a minute or two. The usb boot cd i'm using is the one found at pendrivelinux so its pretty standard for the version of ubuntu i have.

As i said, it boots fine on my newer laptop...anyone have any ideas why it isn't booting on the older one?

You may want to get another cd boot thing, sometimes it helps.

Looking at the pendrivelinux page on Ubuntu without USB support, it seems that tutorial is for older version of Ubuntu. Try this one out:
It actually for Kubuntu, but they're actually the same thing.

good luck,
