Hello All,

This is my first post on this forum. I have a second interview on Tuesday for a Linux Admin job where they are using Redhat Enterprise edition. I have a couple of years of basic admin experience on Solaris, UNIX and Linux boxes. I need some help with refreshing my memory. I have SUSE 9.3 on my personal PC's. I was wondering what are the commands for the following questions.

What are the commands for adding patches?

How do you upgrade the Kernel?

How to edit Host file for IP addresses?

How to add users?

I think you have a bit of work to do before applying for a Linux Admin job. For starters, you will need to be ANSWERING questions like this---not asking them.

What Linux books have you read? That will help us know how to help you

I'll give the short version:

- What are the commands for adding patches?

`man patch`

- How do you upgrade the Kernel?

I can't answer this.

- How to edit Host file for IP addresses?

`man vi` or `vi hosts`

- How to add users?

`man adduser`

The only book I have now is the SUSE Administration guide that came with the 9.3 Pro version. I will read this forum more and pick up a book on Redhat Enterprise edition today. I have several years of basic experience with Linux but it has been a while since I have worked with it. The job I have a interview with found my resume online and called me up. I told them I have some basic experience working in a data center just keeping system online and fsck'n drives. They said it will be a good learning experience for me and asked me to come in for a second interview. I have a clearance which helps. This is not a Senior position.

He made another post, so I guess he's not a OPHR, maybe 2PHR?

I am learning a lot on the new job. Coming from the Windows side I see that UNIX is incredibly powerful but it is so much to learn.
