commands inside shell script


hi ,
I am running a command inside a shell script . Now the command when run from the terminal, it generally shows the loading status till it gets finished .Now when i run the same command inside the script , how do i view the loading status of the command .

As i dont have the exact code now , I am giving an example

youtube-dl "some web address" -> this command is used to download a youtube video . It will show the percentage of progress as it downloads it . But if i use the same with in a script as this
Code:
`youtube-dl "some web address" `
then as i understand the command runs in a subshell , so I am not able to see the percentage of progress . the script simply waits till the download finishes and it returns to the command line .

i am trying to understand how the subshell or child process works .
