Unhappy commands and switches for CentOS

I am learning CentOS. I need to demo 15 commands and switches that I can run on the OS. I don't know where to begin. I tried man -k. it all looks like another language.
HELP

Definitely sounds like homework, but here's a good tutorial:
http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz
You should easily be able to get 15 cmds, but make sure you understand them; there will be qns asked by your teacher.
You can check out each cmd in detail here http://linux.die.net/man/
