command to get the serial number of linux box


Hi friends,

Can anyone tell me, what is the CLI command to get the serial number of the linux box..

Which serial number??

i'm not aware that my Arch Linux system has one, but then something like lindows or whatever it's called might.

lshw will get it for you.,. but WHICH ONE is a good questions.

when I do lshw | grep serial it returns about 10 different serial numbers.
the first it my Dell Service tag ,
the second is the PC Serial Number,
the Third is the CPU Serial number,
The fourth is the Serial number of my RAM module,
Lets not forget the Hard Drive Serial number
and the list goes on from there..
it's even showing the serial number of my USB Flash drive, and the MAC address of my NIC (that's basically a serial number as well).
