Command line syntax

Hello everyone,

Im taking an intro to Linux class and really having a hard time with the command line syntax. Ive spent hours on a "putty" window typing commands and retyping and the help letters are just about gone from my keyboard keys. Is there a good tutorial that really explains the syntax for a "dummy"? Any help would really be appreciated.

What do you mean by "syntax"? The only reason I ask (and not to put you down, or anything) is most Windows/Mac OS-to-Linux converts don't know the first thing about the shell, let alone some of the "day-to-day" wording Linux and UNIX users use.

Syntax refers to things like, single quotes ('), double-quotes ("), asterisks, semi-colons, ampersands (&), pipes (|)...any specific examples, and I would be more than happy to help.
