Comand line .. Send the output of move player to tv out on video card ..

OK .. Here is the deal ...

I have a nvidia gefore2 mx420 running Ubuntu 9.04 .. All updated ...

I have the TV out from the video card going to a Modulator for Channel 3 .. then to a splitter .. and to my TV's in the house. Got all my Movies on it .. And it just plays a random move 24/7 .. Worked ok when i had a main display hooked up, but i moved it, and want to run it without a display hooked up. ... Ok .. Cool .. It boots . into Ubuntu and the VNC connects ... OK .. But ... I now only have one desktop and it is the same one that is playing on the TV's ... SO, my question is .. WHat would be the best way for me to work this out .. So i can play movies on the TV out .. and to all my TV's .. and still be able to connect VNC to the box .. and use it? A simple command line text? What?

Please help ..

Thanks..

How many PCs are there ... Why is there any VNC at all in your setup ... you want to use your TV monitor ... you need to setup xorg.conf for that ... your post is ... confusing ... you need ... to ... put a paragraph ... describing your setup ... with ... all the computers ... and ... where the TV is plugged ... and ... then you ... can post your question ... BTW ... VNC sucks ... you should just use ... Xorg ... to connect ... remotely, or ... NX ... which is way ... better!!!

My Setup ...

OK .. I have a wireless network set up at home .. a Ubuntu 9.04 box .. And 3 Other Window Boxes ... I use the Ubuntu box as a DNS/WEB/FTP/and mail server .. all that works fine .. I use the linux box for torrent downloads .. and VNC (Remote Desktop) into the linux box to work on it. I also have samba setup to share all the drives on the box. I keep all my movies on the Linux box, and just share them on my local network. All that works ...

Also, on the Linux Box (Ubuntu 9.04) i have a NV Geforce2 MX420 video card. This card has a video out option. Also has the standard VGA port.

From the Video out on the video card, i connect to a modulator to make this video signal into channel 3. After that i run into a video splitter. From the Sllitter i go to all the TV's in the house. I also have channel 3,7,8,9 Mod'ed. (Home Video System). ALl that works fine.

I have the Desktop setup on the Ubuntu Box, and use VNC to connect to it. (Remote Desktop from windows).

Everything was working ok .. But when i took the monitor away, and moved the ubuntu box back to where it lives .. It removes the two different display options.

What i'm left with is, only one screen. The same one that is displayed on the video out of my card. Like .. I see Mouse and all. What i need is a dual display so i can send the move full screen to one display, and have it set as the screen that shows on the out of the card, and can keep working on the other screen. (Works if i plug in a monitor)

I can Remote into the box, start the Movie, and go full screen .. Disconnect, and then just connect SSH to the box. However, i would like to use the desktop. Being im still a newbie.

SO, what i need is .. How do i setup a Virtual Screen? In my Xorg.conf? That or how would i take control over what is displayed on the video out of my video card?

Can i just use a pipe command to force it? (If that's the right)

Or would i have to setup a virtual screen .. and set it as the default for X user log-in ? ...

Sorry . .Im kinda lost ..

OK, I think I get what your problem is. Just don't use VNC and your problem is gone. Install Xming on the Windows Box and use that to connect to your Ubuntu box. With the help of XMing, start the client 'gnome-session' in a window.
If you really want to use VNC (which sucks), then use Xvnc.
Now, to control what monitor you use and how, use nvidia-settings, which does a pretty good job and is quite easy to use.

OK .. So i looked at Xming ... Cool .. Whatever .. I use the VNC with SSH also, and being it's the default in Ubuntu .. I'll look at some of the other .. but can stay with VNC for now ... As for the Nvidia-Settings App .. I no longer have the option for anything other than one monitor. I dont know how to trick Nvidia into thinking it has the other display still hooked up.
