Question Color in the Console

When I open a console as a normal user; directories, files, symbolic links, etc. show up as different colors. Is there a way for these colors to show when I'm logged in as root as well?

P.S.

The distro is Debian.

Usually the command ls is an alias with a bunch of options: for example on my system I have
Code:
$ alias ls
alias ls='ls -N --color=tty -T 0'
Here the --color=tty is the part giving the colorized items. Check your options as normal user and put the relevant part in the options of root. You have to define the alias again, for example by putting it in the .bashrc file for root.
