Color as root in vi

Have just installed fedora 16 amd64. Color is on when using vi as a normal user but does not appear when i'm logged on as root. What do i need to do? There's no ./vimrc file in normal user /home or root /home. There's only vimrc in /etc. Please help...

Hello,

This is due to an alias setting (vi=vim) within your normal user. As root, instead of using vi, use vim, and you will have your colors.

Cheers,

Josh

If you like, you can set "alias vi=vim" in your local i.e. root's .bash_profile or similar start-up file.
