COEXISTING OF WINXP and MANDRAKE 9.1
I've read in this forum that there are some troubles while trying to install Linux onto WinXP. But I can't find that thread. The WinXP was to have some speciall booter that, when replaced by Linux booter, it's not working right.
Someone said that the only way is to use a diskette to boot Linux, but the other person gave hope that it's possible to fix it somehow. Please help me. At this time I have Linux on my PC, but using Wine I destroyed Program Files on Win C drive Gadu-Gadu, and having to install myself a new Windows, I chose WinXP. So I can use only WinXP now, until I get a clue, how to make Linux and WinXP coexist. Thanx. |
actually, there shouldn't be any problems with mandrake and xp. I have been doing that for more than a year now without a problem.
go ahead and install mandrake. Let the installer resize the ntfs partiton if it is taking up the whole drive and install the bootloader (lilo) into the MBR. |
Thanx
Now that's encouraging.

I have a quadruple-boot machine, where the boot manager has three choices: Windows, BeOS, and Mandrake. Choosing Windows brings up the Windows bootloader, allowing a choice of XP or 2000.
So, yes, it is possible. Steve |
oK.
Yes, thanx.
I reinstalled Mandrake yesterday onto my WinXP. And it works. :) I think that someone who had discouraged me, had the WinXP with NTFS. I have only win32 for Windows, so probably that's the reason why everything's fine in my computer. |
I've got xp with ntfs and no problems. that someone probably did something wrong like installing the bootloader in the wrong place.

Aha. Now I have problems with something else. Like maths at my university. Linux will have to wait a while.
