i m setting up a two node cluster.... and i wanna know the logic behind votes and expected votes. i m using system-config-cluster to setup my cluster.conf file.
i hv read that "A count of just over half the nodes in the cluster is needed to establish a quorum."
does votes play a role in this count???
if yes, then to maintain a cluster in quorate state, cant we define a high value of votes??

i m little confused....... plz help me out.
thankyou.

Hi

Yes, "The cluster is quorate if the sum of votes of existing members is over half of the expected votes value."

per default expected_votes is the total number of all votes from all nodes. e.g.:

node1 votes=1
node2 votes=1
node3 votes=2
node4 votes=3

expected_votes=7

if node4 and node1 are online the cluster is quorate (3 + 1 = 4)

thanx for ur response. assigning the no. of votes in our hand, then cant we assign a high value of votes to nodes so that they contribute more votes in calculation of quorat state???

what is the roll of Q-disk in this calculation???
