Clueless about command line DLing and installing. Please help

I need help...

I can't get the GUI to launch because I have an ATI Radeon 9800XT card and I am running Mandrake 9.2, so once I launch and try to run startx, I am stuck at the command line due to Xfree86 issues.

I know that I need to DL and install drivers for the card as well as mayhap a new kernel.

Problem is I dunna know how to do this from the command line. I don't know how to DL files into a system that I can't have an graphic interface with (I am a layman and NOOB when it comes to text command driven interfaces) or launch them strictly from the command line.

Also, since I am clueless with Linux, I don't know how to test to see if it even sees my network connection (Dual boot system with WinXP as the main OS, connected to my small inner house network)

There are other pages I have read that came close but I am not allowed to link them here because I am new and this is my first post.

Please help me.

Use lynx. It's a TUI browser. Or if you know the specific URL for the file, use wget
