cloud based scanner - av linux
Hi-
Is it okay that a cloud based scanner is not fast? I am using comodo pro 10 right now. It seems really cool. The scanner is not really fast when you do a full scan. Can I just scan send it to the background and not worry about speed? I don't know if there is any advantages to having a scanner that is blazing fast like in Webroot or Malwarebytes. If there is no technical issue, I am going to use comodo for my 2 Linux installs in addition to Windows 10! thx. - mtdew3q |
whats wrong with using Clamscan on linux to scan for Microsoft viruses on Microsoft Operating Systems
ps there are only about a few dozen linux viruses ( and a few HUNDRED THOUSAND Microsoft viruses ) so say 36 VS 750,000 running intrusion detection software would be a better use of linux cpu resources than looking for WINDOWS viruses on a linux machine |
HI -
Well...there is this one http://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-d...ief-steals-in/ I know there have been security vulnerabilities I read about too that go on for quite some time and then are discovered. I don't think Linux is impervious but I am a bit paranoid. thx. |
HI-
I use TK- clamscan with freshclam and it works well. Comodo might be worth a try. thx. |
almost all viruses that can run on linux would need root access
and unless you run AS root that is rather hard for a automated bot to do ( a human -- well no os will stand up) even the CIA can not stop 100% of the crackers 100% of the time -- added later you must like banging your head on the desk the tk motiff gui is junk the terminal is much much much a better option and WAY more useful |
Hi-
I guess. I mean there are things like escalation of privileges with buffer overflows that still apply. That isn't really my question or issue though. I am more interested in finding out about if webroot scanner or malwarebyte that can run in under 2 minutes flat really matters. I never saw a scanner like Comodo that takes many hours to do a complete full scan. I've seen signature based scanners, the old ones, that finish even on slow computers in 3 hours. Comodo has a scanner in the cloud that is REALLY slow. If speed doesn't matter in the end I happily will use Comodo. If no one really knows or can't answer right now I will put it to the test. I am very curious about that scanner. Thx for cool feedback- jim |
a scan of say 3 or 4 TB of data will take hours
not too long ago ( 2003 - 15 years) a 128 gig drive was a normal big drive today a 4 tb is small |
Hey John-
Very cool news to report. Last night on the initial scan it must have taken 10 hours. Today it is on track to only take <=2 hours for my PC. I thought 10 hours for a regular Win 10 install (maybe like 100 GB) ? Crazy...right? It is much faster now! I am happy now that I picked comodo. Have a cool night- jim |
