Clear Netscape Location Bar?

How does one go about clearing out the Location bar in netscape. I know in Windows there's a button to click in the preferences somewhere, but I can't find a similar button in Netscape...

I think there is a .netscape directory under your home directory. I believe one of the files under it has that information.

yeah, in your home directory, cd into your .netscape directory. there you will find a history.list file. clear that out and it will clear your location bar.

A very simple way to do it is while you have Netscape open go to Edit, Preferences, Navigator, History. You can clear history and your location bar. :)

in netscape there is no clear location bar like in the windows version.. only clear cache.

That worked. Thanks. But is there anyway to show those /.whatever directories in the home directory without having to search for them??

Well they are just hidden files. I think by default netscape will create it as a hidden file. don't know of a way around this since even if you deleted the file, it would regenerate as a hidden but you could maybe try to rename the file without the period in front of it...to keep it unhidden. not sure if that would work or not.

Hi trickykid,

I use Netscape 6.2 and I verified the steps as I typed them so I know they work. You can clear both the history and the location bar this way. If you go under Edit, Preferences, Advanced you can clear the cache. My software package included Netscape 4.X and it didn't work the same way which is one reason why I upgraded.

I checked my Netscape directory which when I installed Netscape by default went to /usr/local/Netscape and couldn't find a history file. Oddly enough both Mozilla and Opera have directories in my home directory but not Netscape. Perhaps it's something I did wrong during installation but Netscape is working fine so I don't know.

hmmm.. i haven't or don't use 6.2.. probably totally different from the 4.x versions that come default on most distro's. but if you have a clear location bar, i'll take your word on it. :D
