cleaning up the mess

Hi.
i've been running a Debain-sarge kernel 2.4.25 for aprox. 3 months.

i've got the basic hang of it, and yeah, i like it

BUT!!!

during a lot of testing i fear the i''ve pretty much buggered up the system and that its in a mess...

how do i "clean it up".
it freezes from time to time, it keeps crashing the xmms, network keeps disconnecting (but it could b the ISP, though never had so man disco's on WINXP)

where do i start?

mucho obligio

It's hard to tell, man. There are lots of details to take into account.
At first, it can be a good idea to create a new user and log into it. If it prevents some errors to happen, then the problem is in some .file inside your home.
By this way you can keep yourself from editing the system, while you can edit just your own files.
Got it?

#apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

make that a habit as it will keep your nice little debs up to date and happy

edit: there are usually updates everyday.
