chromium in ubuntu 12.4 wont play vedios on facebook


hi,hello and thanks for accepting me on here, ive been using linux 12.4 for about 2 years and love it, i had to install it again on another laptop, all works well accept no videos that people have posted on facebook will play when using chromium but plays youtube ok and all videos play fine in firefox,ive been all over the net trying to find a solution and people talk about pepperplayer but can only find it for ubuntu 14.04 which i dont want to use, is there no fix for this in ubuntu 12.4 chromium.... i really would be great full for any help such as a sudo link.... thanks in advance for any help...dave

I'm not sure about fixing your issue, but have you considered using Chrome instead?

As I understand it Chromiunm no longer supports Adobe Flash (and/or other Adobe) video.
If you can - suggest you enjoy the less laggy and generally more advert_free version you see before they are dumped.

hi, thanks for the replys, im using chromium ,didnt know you can get chrome for linux and dont know how to get it, if you dont mind me quoting you 273.. ( suggest you enjoy the less laggy and generally more advert_free version you see before they are dumped. ).. i dont know what you mean there mate...i also use addblockplus on chromium and firefox so dont get any adds at all.... thanks again.

Have you installed pepper-flash? Chromium uses that instead of flash-plugin. it is pepperflashplugin-nonfree in the software center

thanks, pepperflashplugin-nonfree in the software center isnt available in ububnu 12.4,tried it, it works in 14.04, but i dont want to use 14.04....cheers

ps, have also tried installing it in terminal from a site i found, dosnt work in 12.4...thanks

You can install google chrome from the main site Google Chrome. Download the deb and double click it. Should open in software center. I used it when I had 12.04.

Sorry about misreading your initial post the first round, and suggesting something you tried....too much of a hurry.

jkirchner mate, you are a genius .... that worked brilliantly .... and its a fast browser too eh....never knew about chrome for ubuntu before... wish everybody else who has been trying to find a cure for this knew but i will spread the word...thanks and all the best.

I was referring to the HTML5 versions currently allowing you to block adverts. Somehow I can't see Google allowing that to work forever. I know those who are aware of AdBlock will likely always be a minority but I still thing when that minority becomes significant enough Google will work around it.
