Chromium displaying artifacts on Youtube
 

Hello,

I have recently installed Elementary OS on my HP 550 laptop. While everything is running as expected, I've run into a small problem when attempting to watch videos on Youtube using Chromium.

The video loads fine but displays little yellow rectangles all over the video. According to Youtube, Chromium uses HTML5 rather than Flash - maybe that is the issue - but I am thinking it maybe a graphics driver issue. The videos run absolutely fine on Firefox and will stick to that if necessary, but I would prefer to use Chromium.

I have tried using and it couldnt find any drivers to install.

Intel video drivers are free as opposed to proprietary, which is probably (I think in part,) why Jockey did not list any.

I read through those threads before posting here, the pepper flash plugin wasn't listed in chromium so I couldn't disable it. I think the problem lies with HTML5 content rather than flash which is probably why I don't have an issue using Firefox as it still uses flash for videos. I assume it's a driver issue but i couldn't find a resolution through Google searches.

If using flash would correct the problem, there should be a way to force Youtube to use flash while using Chromium. I've looked around Google but am not seeing a solution. :(

If you want to try using Chrome instead, there is this plugin for it. :)

I installed the plugin you linked to, tried to play a video on Youtube, it said Flash needs to be installed. I went through the set up process using the Software Centre file the Adobe site linked to, but its still saying that flash isn't installed. i checked Chrome://plugins and it isn't listed there.

Any suggestions?

If you installed Chrome, it already comes with the Pepper version of flash. However, if getting the regular, standalone version of flash is needed in this case, try the instructions here. :)

Since you brought up HTML5, this link will tell you what is supported on the browser you use to click on it, and I think you can change to flash from here also.

Many thanks guys for the help. It doesnt seem to be playing ball, not sure why. I'll stick to firefox for now. It's not the end of the world, theyre both great browsers.
