Question choose windows manager

hello ,

i have just install debian woody and i don't understand configurations files ...

in /etc/inittab , even i make defaultinit to 2,3 or 5 , XDM run when i start my computer ...
i founded a file in /etc/X11/ that is call "default-display-manager" (i think) and i put a comment in line that it give binary XDM directory ...
So , now , WDM don't run at startup but i think is little strong to do it , don't it ?

the most important is that i want to lunch my desirered windows manager when i run startx but i don't see anywhere what kind of file i have to change to make it possible ...

even , i try to make .xinitrc in ~/(myuser)/ with this line :
exec fvwm
but it dosen't work to ....

so , please help me !!

~/(myuser)/
this does not make sense... you mean either ~/ or /home/myuser/

If you're using startx you don't need to use the XDM/GDM/KDM programs. Reset inittab to the level where you log in at the command line.

Make .xinitc run the window manager you want.
