Question Chinese typesetting?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about typesetting in chinese. I have downloaded cjk-lyx and installed it. I can type chinese and english, but when I view the dvi file in xdvi, i get gibberish. when i export to pdf, its the same thing. I've exported to LaTeX and when I opened in Kwrite to see what it looked like, I saw the following:

%% LyX 1.3 created this file. For more info, see http lyx. org/.
%% Do not edit unless you really know what you are doing.

wo (the chinese character for "I")

Do I need to change settings in LyX or LaTeX to make it work? or do I need to do something with my dvi viewer and pdf printer?

Is there a better typesetter out there for handling chinese?

Have you installed all the needed fonts too?
I can write japanese using emacs, and produce pdf using the cjk package; all I can tell you is to install all of the chinese fonts.

I have the following chinese fonts installed: SimHei, AR PL KaitiM Big5/GB, AR PL Mingti2L Big5, AR PL SungtiL GB.

If I need to sepcify which font to use, how do I do this?

I also notice, on LyX, the chinese language option is non-existant, and GB2312 and GB18030 are not selectable choices for encoding. Did i install the cjk-lyx rpm incorrectly? Which files do i need to modify to accept chinese encoding?

the editor can see the chinese words correctly, but the output file (pdf/dvi) reads it as gibberish.
