the sound on my pc sounds like the chimpmunks ...when i ran direct x it says .... your sound card does not support hardware buffering . sounds will only play back from software buffers .......... what does that mean and how do I fix it ......... ????? Thanks for any Help .ps my o.s. is ME

Are you saying that you are running Windows ME and are asking questions on a linux site.

1) We usually don't mind answering Windows Questions, but put them in the proper thread (IE General).

2) Get something other than ME.

3) Try re-installing your drivers

usually helps to know what sound card you have installed.

I'm thinking might have something to do with sampling rate... but I wouldn't know how to change that in the settings.

well anything from 22000 to 48000 hz should be fine.

well I think once I played a 22khz file on a 44khz sound card or w/e... and it sounded like chipmunks. But it was probably played as a 44 khz even though it was a 22khz.

I.m so sorry the sound card is AC 97 and since it says your sound card does not support hardware buffering , sounds will only play back from software buffers ...that it was a sound card thing not a windows thing ...sorry new to all this
