Checksum error doing media check Fedora 10 cd's just burnt
 

Hi All,

I am new to the forum, just like to introduce myself, the name is ET Radix, I need some help, I have downloaded the Fedora 10 cd's from Fedora Project.org, when trying to install, it tries to do a media check before the installation, and it says something about a not accounting for checksum, or something to that effect. I have tried downloaded all iso's again, burnt them again and used Hashcalc to verify the SHA1 key on each ISO and all were correct, however I get the some problem when trying to install again, I searched previous threads and found a suggested solution from 2005 to a link that no longer exists,

burn it again and slow the burn down. about 8 to 16 speed. if it happens again your iso download is corrupted

That's kind of funny: I just downloaded FC10/64 (one dvd) and even though the md5 sum is wrong, it passed the intial media check and everything has been fine.

If you're new, don't worry about bad checksums, it's almost the norm for them to come out incorrect.

I'd also note, however, that when I booted the dvd the media check was optional. If you do do it and it passes, the installer still does something wrong so you have to reboot (I can't quite remember what, but I do know this and some other little glitches seem to have persisted with the redhat installer for the years that I've been using it). I don't know what happens if the media check fails...my point is the fedora installer is not half as functional as fedora itself. In fact it's a pathetic mess.

For example, if you install with X and absolutely nothing else, you need like 100 gig of space. If you install with an absolute minimum (no X), then install X from the .rpm's yourself, by the time you've got a functioning desktop, your drive will still only have about 10 gigs on it (eg, right now mine is at 15 GB).

I would love to know what all that other garbage is/was, but I guess that's another topic. It's a shame that new users basically have to "eat it" this way.
