Checking the integrity of an Ubuntu filesystem

I deleted a folder to the MythTV app that would not disappear after I uninstalled the packages and I believe I may have messed up my system. A friend once told me to type something to check whether my files were messed up, but I long forgot what it was. Does someone here know? Thanks in advance!

man fsck - file system check. The system should do that at bootup if it thinks there's an error.
