Checking free disk space

Kind of new to linux and still trying to shake off the addiction to windows, what I need for one of you guys to tell me is how do I check the amount of free disk space available.I get a major problem when I try to install some software in linux and it tells me that I don't have enough free disk space so if you got any idea how to do this like post it here.

Try "df -h", and you may find a Linux newbie guide will help you with the more basic tasks.
