Lightbulb Checking Email from remote System


Hey there.. i'm about as extreme a newbie as they come.. I'm trying to figure out how to check my email and such from a remote system..

also.. once i get that set up.. how would i check it from windows... using telnet?

what kind of system are you using remotely first off ?

and never use telnet, unsecure, I would suggest ssh.

SSH

well.. i'd more likely than not be checking from a windows system.. and how would i go about using ssh from a windows system..

you can use a program PuTTY which I prefer to use while in windows to ssh to my linux machine.

where?

where would i find it? and how would i set up the ssh account on my computer.. and would i just use the regular ssh command in shell to access it from linux?

http://www.openssh.com/ check out that site.. all about ssh.

ok i got that down.. how would i go about checking my email using that program tho? like i said.. i'm a complete

basically if you can ssh into your linux box.. you should be able to do anything you want on your box. its like sitting pretty much right in front of your box with all the access you need.
also just noticed your using slack 8. if you did a full install of slack, it should come already setup with the ssh ready for use on your machine, all you would have to do is ssh into your box from a remote location..

hmm

no what i'm asking is what are the command lines to access my email and such.. like what exactly do i type in

it would depend how you have your mail setup and what program you use to get your mail.
