Changing to gnome? (absolute newbie =)

Alright, I just installed linux and got most of my hardware working and now, I am thinking I want to try Gnome. So I go and I look through the linux help thats built in to SUSE and I find nothing. I would really like to switch just ... to switch(?). But , After doing ĻsomeĻ research I found out that there should be an option right where I log in, theres not.. It? just a square box that says user:.
password:

So if anyone could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Vodius

EDIT: (I guess making all the stuff line up right didnīt help did it? lol)

Which version of SuSE???

I use 9.1 and SuSE kind of nerfed Gnome. You can switch using the KDM KDE login manager,... but you probably will get font trouble. It's tough to rebuild the fonts too.

You can run just about any Gnome app by default in SuSE. They all work fine,... nautilus (make sure you issue it with the switch for it not taking over as the desktop manager), etc...

Yes it is version 9.1, I am trying to run Gaim. I will try using the KDM login manager. Also in the Yast fileconfig thing, I switched my Desktop to Gnome... Didnīt work :-\. Well, I am downloading Wine right now... so , I will defiantly give that a try. Be back on here Asap.

Also if anyone else has any suggestions =) feel free to tell me.

GAIM will work fine in KDE.

I use it all the time.

You can also try Kopete, it's very similar.

Install GAIM with Yast. It should be on your disks...

Same with Kopete.

When you attempt to install the RPM, you will get an error message regarding the necessary packages. Install them too. Find them at a SuSE RPM mirror site.
