Changing the language inKDE
Hello all.
I'm an native Spanish speaker but from a while I've been taking German lessons, so I'd like to change the language of my SUSE 9.2 from English to Deutsch. I have used YaST for doing this and in fact, some things are now in Deutsch: YaST, Gaim and even the kernel messages, but KDE, Firefox, OpenOffice and so on remain in English. I suppose that I should reinstall some specific applications like Firefox and OpenOffice, but, what about KDE? How can I change the whole system into Deutsch? I'm sorry if there are some mistakes in my English. Regards from Mexico. |
yes, for those apps you will have to install some specific language packages
but kde is different: installing the corresponding i18n package (internationalization=i+18 letras+n) and choosing your language in the KDE Control Center will do the job you can even make an icon to appear next to the clock, allowing you to set keyboard layout and other international features don't know if you updated your kde version, but the official german package at ftp.suse.com (kde version=3.3.0) is ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2...2.1.noarch.rpm or just select "kde3-i18n-de" via YaST espero que te sirva de ayuda Regards from Spain P.S.: as Oscar Wilde said, "das Leben ist zu kurz, um Deutsch zu lernen" :D |
hi ,
Just enable the locale to get the input of spanish from the keyboard ..By the way there should be some Spanish fonts available in your system then only you will be able to display the spanish character ...For setting the locale i think it is set_locale from the console and the corresponding spanish locale will be available from the locales directory in X11 .For spanish font i am not sure which one is having it ..By the way ur system should be supporting UTF format ..
