Changing picture type in Linux

I have a picture that has the file extension .bmp, and I am trying to load it onto a webpage, but it says that they only take .jpg. How do I change it to a .jpg picture on Fedora Core?

you need a program to do it with, gimps quite capable so are most graphics programs. imagemagick will also do it from the command line.

I downloaded imagemagick, but when I try to install it, it says that I don't have the followint packages:

libmagick-5.5.6-Q16.so.0 (Required by 'ImageMagick-c++', '5.5.6', '5')
libmagick-5.5.6-Q16.so.0 (Required by 'ImageMagick-perl', '5.5.6', '5')

How do I get those?

Thats strange. Heres a link to the 5.5.7 copy of imagemagick for Fedora. Maybe this will work better for you. Its the latest stable version.

What format did you download ImageMagick in?
Was it meant for your distro, or are you compiling
from source?

If it's rpm you'll need to grab the development
libraries along with the "real" thing...

Tink

When I do that one, there are 6 files that it says I need.
And when I do the gimp one, it says there are 14 files that I need.

In a separate rpm?

/me nods, and mutters to himself:"Man, rpm sucks ..."
