Changing permissions using KDE

How do I become root to change permissions when I right click on a directory and then properties in Konqueror. I have tried going into the terminal and doing su but I still get greyed out windows or a message that I don't have permission when I want to copy files into directories.

Thanks for any advice

Select "K Menu / System / More Programs / File Manager - Super User Mode".. When you enter your root password then you can do superman things in KDE environment.

I'm running KDE 3.1.4 on Slackware. There maybe some feature or configuration difference. I hope "su -c konqueror" command will help.. It should run a Konqueror with the root permissions. If not, chmod definitely will help.. :-)
