changing permissions on mounted drives.

How do I change permissions on a mounted drive. I tried as root because he is the owner and group with no success. I umounted and was able to change it but as soon as I mounted them again or rebooted (this also mounted them), the changes I made to the permissions changed back.

[with mounted drives except removable:]
[root@workstation1 drew]# cd /mnt
[root@workstation1 mnt]# ls -l
total 16
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul 3 16:38 cdrom/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jul 2 19:37 drew/
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul 3 16:38 floppy/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jun 19 11:18 music/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jul 1 11:47 _public/
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jul 2 01:17 removable/

[with mounted drives including removable:]
[root@workstation1 mnt]# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/removable
[root@workstation1 mnt]# ls -l
total 28
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul 3 16:38 cdrom/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jul 2 19:37 drew/
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul 3 16:38 floppy/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jun 19 11:18 music/
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Jul 1 11:47 _public/
drwxr--r-- 3 root root 16384 Dec 31 1969 removable/
[root@workstation1 mnt]#

[drive discription:]
drew - drive on a windows box using active directory over samba
music - same as drew
_public - same as drew
removable - USB 64MB hand drive (flash_ROM stick) pluged into localhost

I tried "chmod 777 /mnt/removable" to give me full control and tried using konqueror in super user mode with no success. I want the owner to be drew and group to be staff. Right now it's all root.

For non-linux native FS's and networked
ones you can't chmod... you'll need to edit
/etc/fstab for that, playing with umask and
uid ...

man mount
man fstab
for more info :}

Thanks, but still confuzed.

This is what my /etc/fstab looks like:

/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
//server1/_public /mnt/_public smbfs credentials=/etc/samba/auth.server1.drew 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
//server1/drew /mnt/drew smbfs credentials=/etc/samba/auth.server1.drew 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
//server1/music /mnt/music smbfs credentials=/etc/samba/auth.server1.drew 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/removable vfat user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,umask=0,exec,kudzu 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0

I want read/write/execute permissions for /mnt/removable from my user only. Right now root owns it and I want drew to own it.
