Changing Mouse from PS/2 to USB

I installed Slackware 9.0 months ago, later, switching back to Windows because it gots' too hot. Anyway though, I at first had a PS/2 mouse installed, a "7 button" mouse. I looked over serveral how-tos and was unable to find my answers, so i reverted to using my PS/2 for the time being. (I'd stay with the PS/2, however, the face plate makes it double click when I single click.) What exactly should I do?

Thanks for any help,

Nevermind that, friend of mine recompiled my kernal a few times and we unplugged this and that. It ended up working for absolutely no reason.
