Question changing monitors in pinguy 2

I installed Pinguy 2 on laptop and then hooked to my 40 inch LCD tv/monitor, after detecting it in the system control under monitor it worked fine but after downloading the 355 updates there were for pinguy2 something changed and now only the laptop monitor works.when I go to control center and open monitors and click detect monitors now nothing happens and when I click on same image in all monitors it will not let me put a check in it and so I can not change anything. The weird thing in all this is that when I first boot up the system the mouse pointer works on the 40 for a moment then it stops and only works on the laptop monitor, any ideas would be much appreacited as I am brand new to Linux thanks.
