Changing kernel version 2.4.20-8 to 2.4.20-8custom
Hi
I tried to use [insmod iptmodbus.o] but I receive an error message saying:
kernel-module version mismatch
iptmodbus.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.20-8custom
while this kernel is version 2.4.20-8.
So how do I upgrade or change my kernel version? The kernel version in my /usr/src/linux/Makefile file is
EXTRAVERSION = -8custom
Isn't that already a custom version?
Your advices are truly appreciated!

Rep:
have you changed anything in the kernel source except the extraversion? if not, change it back, and recompile the module.
i think insmod -f would work though.

the makefile in the top of the kernel source directory has the kernel name in it. you can edit it if you wish.
It's probably the fourth line of /usr/src/linux/Makefile.
I figured it out. Strangely enough, my problem was *how* exactly to edit the fourth line back from EXTRAVERSION = -8custom to EXTRAVERSION = -8 (yes, that's how newbie this newbie be). So,
