changing GUI Login

I have KDE installed on my Laptop
regardless of what changes I make in the Login Manager I always see the same plain RedHat GUI login screen :scratch:
I have however been able to change it to the X-Free-86 by setting
/etc/sysconfig/desktop
DESKTOP=XDM

But that is it.
Is there some part of kdm I might have over looked that I need to make sure is installed?

Thanks

edit kdmrc

You can change anything in kdm by editing the file kdmrc. I think that you want to change the Background= parameter.

Finding kdmrc can be tricky. Different distributions hide it in different places. SuSE has both kdmrc and a symbolic link to kdmrc. Try:

find /opt -iname "*kdmrc*"

find /etc -iname "*kdmrc*"

find /usr -iname "*kdmrc*"
